Do You Need A Tufted Rug Or Woven Rug?

Rugs are respected possessions, there’s no denying it. Almost every home has one. Whether it is a children’s rug, bedroom rug or outdoor rug, all carpets and rugs in general play a key role in adding to a space’s aesthetic appeal and comfort.
However, even yet machines have taken over rugs production, you can still find rugs made through the ancient method of hand weaving. In fact, if you visit the various rug manufacturers and rugs stores, you can still find different rug designs and even request for custom rugs. For example, if you visit those in the Far and Middle East, you will find handmade oriental rugs such as Turkish, Turcoman, Persian and Chinese.
But how do choice the proper handmade rug? You first need to know how to differentiate them.
Mostly, handmade rugs fall into two categories: hand-tufted rugs and hand-woven rugs. Though both are handmade, they differ in production, looks, feel, durability as well as cost.
Hand-tufted rugs
While it’s right that many handmade carpets are made through hand-knotting, there are others which utilize hand-tufting – a particularly favorite technique in the 1920’s and 1930’s because of its cheapness and simplicity.

When via this technique of rug making, pre-woven canvas is the main material used together with piles of wool, silk and synthetic fibers. However, it is still quite easy to confuse between the two because of their match. In any case, what you should be aware of is that hand-tufted rugs are cheap and take a short time to make as compared to hand-woven carpets and rugs mainly due to the fact that they do not use small knots but rather small tufts.
The course kicks-off by sectioning out the appropriate shapes and sizes of the backing material followed by projecting the image of the custom rug design on the chosen material after which tracing is done. With a tufting gun to create the rug pattern follows it up. It is then applied with latex glue, which holds the tufts in its place. To finish off, a small layer of latex is utilized on the carpet’s back to prevent damage when it is placed on the floor.
In the end, even though hand-tufted rugs will not be as durable or valuable, they still have comparable carpet and rug designs, cost less and are great for those who are on a small budget.
Hand-woven rugs
This specific type of handmade rug requires a lot of time and skill when weaving mostly because the number of knots made per square inch will determine the quality.
Accordingly, these types of carpets and rugs tend to be expensive and durable. If you are out looking for durable woven rugs in the various rug stores and wondering which rug manufacturers to approach, these are the rugs for you.
